Text Based Adventure Games

  • As I pointed out before, this is one of the most famous pieces of text in video game history, from Zork 1. Text Adventures Are Fairly Simple to Make. The great part about text games is that you don't need to be an artist or a hardcore computer programmer to make them.
  • Create, play and share text adventure games. Textadventures.co.uk is a community of interactive fiction game makers and players. All games here are either playable in your web browser, or as an app for your smartphone or tablet. Almost all are free, and you can even make your own, using our free software - Quest or Squiffy.

On mainframe computers[edit]

Years listed are those in which early mainframe games and others are believed to have originally appeared. Often these games were continually modified and played as a succession of versions for years after their initial posting. (For purposes of this list, minicomputers are considered mainframes, in contrast to microcomputers, which are not.)
